Carolinensiel-Harlesiel

Carolinensiel is the gateway to Wangerooge — and one of East Frisia's largest historical sluice harbours. Three harbours from three centuries make the village an open-air museum: the "Old Harbour" (1729), the "Museum Harbour" with historic vessels, and the modern yacht- and ferry-port at Harlesiel. A must for maritime fans. Shrimp-cutter trips and harbour cruises leave from the Sielhafen. Worth seeing: the German Sielhafen Museum, the Capt'n Caro playground, the "Bertha Brückner" freighter museum. Get there: car or bus 671 from Wittmund.
