Wyk auf Föhr

Wyk auf Föhr is the only town on a German North Sea island. Föhr calls itself the "Frisian Caribbean" — sheltered from the open sea between Sylt and Amrum, it has milder weather than the rest of the region and even palms in the spa garden. The sandy promenade faces south, so the sun stays longer here than anywhere on the Halligen. Worth seeing: the historic captains' houses along the row, the Friesen-Museum with the famous "Riemers Marken painting", the harbour aquarium, the old "Venti Amica" mill. Get there: car ferry from Dagebüll Mole. The island is car-friendly but ideal for cycling — the loop is about 30 km.
