Hooksiel sits on the Jade Bay, right by the A29 motorway — halfway between Wilhelmshaven and Wangerooge. The village has a charming outer harbour, a fine sandy beach on the Hooksmeer inland lake (a freshwater bathing lake, unusual for the coast), and a friendly compact centre. Worth seeing: the Pakhus warehouse, courtyard concerts in the Reformed Church, the Hooksmeer windsurf school for beginners. Get there: A29 exit Sande, or NordWestBahn from Oldenburg.
